How to scambait? Part 1

You've received this kind of mail:
"Please forgive me for the unofficial way of reaching you via email. I am
Alex G. Nwachukwu (Mr.), the Auditor General, All Standard Securities Limited. In
the course of my auditing, I discovered a floating fund in an account which
was opened in 1990 belonging to a dead foreigner a national of your country.
I decided to track his last name over the Internet to locate any member of
his family hence I got in contact with you.

I want to move the sum of $18.5M from All Standard Securities Limited in his
account to abroad. I am therefore write to ask you that you quietly partner
with me and providing an account or setting up a new one that will serve the
purpose of receiving this fund. Even an empty account can also serve as long
as there will be honesty to me till the end of the deal and I hope you will
never let me down. After going through deased records and files, I
discovered that:

(1) No one has operated this account since 2003;
(2) He died without an heir; hence the money has been floating.
(3) No other person knows about this account and there was no known beneficiary.

This money can only be approved to you legally as you have the same LAST
NAME. Hence I am contacting you. I will require your urgent reply so that I
give you the next step. Kindly forward your telephone and fax numbers. I am
ready to give you the sum of $7,500,000 ($7.5M) for your assistance and
partnering with me. I look forward to your prompt.

Best Regards,
Mr. Alex G. Nwachukwu"

And you want to have fun with this scammer. Looks like you want to scambait :)

Scambait is a lot of fun and some of you have been asking me what are the basics to do so.

First of all, a lad is the other name of a scammer from West Africa.

First thing you need is a mail from a lad. It doesn't matter if you personaly received it or if it was sent to a friend or anyone. You just need to know the mail address of one lad.
Now you don't want to use your everyday mail, you need to set up a new mail address. I suggest you to use gmail because mails are shown to be have been sent from google's IP so lads can't track you.

Now you need to find a persona, could be any-f***ing-one, that's the beauty of it.

Take a funny name, don't need to even look remotly like a genuine name because you're from this country where Zatsmycok is the most common name of all!

Just a few things you need to know while creating your persona. Lads will ask you to give them a call and obviously you don't want them to have your real phone number, so three choices:
  1. Get a skype number so you can actually chat with your lad :)
  2. Get a k7 voicemail (lads won't be able to actually speak to you but they can leave you a message after the beep)
  3. Your persona needs to be deaf and can only use TextPhone, tell them to get a TextPhone and call you (99.9% chance they won't bother)

Ok so now you have your persona, he/she is deaf or not.
Last thing, you need to think right now of a reason why you can't send them the money quickly. It can't be that you don't have any, because obviously you'll lose him.

You have money but, for example, you live in the deep north and can only travel on mooses and yours is sick :/ That happens more than you think it does.

Therefore: You can't get any time soon to a Western Union or MoneyGram Office. And that's damn bad luck but the vet's moose just been eaten by local children, so he can't come any time soon either!

Now you have all of these, time to answer him!

Try to push the limits of what you think a human being can possibly believe, you'll get surprised.

Unfortunately, scambaiting is not always that easy and I suggest you reply to several lads in order to get answers, because some of them won't reply to you :(. If you need some mails from lads, I'll post some here, just tell me so in the comments.

For your first baits, I suggest you to play like a real victim, just to really grasp the way lads operate to get your money. Once you've seen how a couple of them are doing their business, you'll know how 100% of them are doing it.

If you're stuck in a bait and don't know what to do. Ask in the comments, I'm sure we'll find a way to keep your lad on the hook :)
